What Is Marketing?

Welcome Back. If you haven't, please subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks

Last week I interviewed an escort and paid website owner about marketing. It’s a phone interview… I’ll post it as soon as I get to edit it. :-)

I emailed my questions to her. My first question was: What is the difference between marketing and advertising?

Her answer surprised me: she said: marketing is a lot of work, she hates it, it is tedious. Advertising is fun.

Wow. If the best marketer says this, what must other girls think? No wonder no marketing is going on… or at least not consciously.

Let me set this straight for you all:

1. Marketing is how you present yourself and your services to potential clients
2. Marketing is all the written or verbal communication with a potential client or client
3. Marketing is what you do to “convert” a potential into a paying client
4. Marketing is what you do to “convert” a paying client into a raving fan.
5. Marketing is what you do to get word of mouth advertising
6. Marketing is what you do to get great reviews on the review sites….
the list is endless…

As you notice, marketing is what you already do… The questions are: 1. Are you conscious that these actions performed every day make you a success or a failure in this industry? 2. Do you know what works? 3. Do you use a proven system, or are you just winging it?

If you are like me: you don’t dream about still being a service provider at age 60 and over… unless you love it, of course. But not out of need, not because you have to pay the bills.

Because many parts of marketing don’t happen in the public eye, most of us are not aware of what makes one successful… it is most certainly not looks, not a good haircut, not expensive outfits, not the quality of the “location”, not perfectly manicured hands, not the perfect smile, not the picture perfect body, not the techniques. These do matter, but — my humble opinion — all these visible elements, these expensive and time consuming things are only responsible for about 25% of success… not more. The rest is a secret, hidden, just like the underwater part of an ice berg, have more weight, and because you can’t see it, you can’t learn it, unless someone teaches you.

Rats, you say? I understand. Most successful practitioners are busy raking it in, and are not interested in teaching it. Until now.

Retired, once successful practitioner, Becca aka Judycious to the rescue.

Watch out for future articles, audios and videos, to learn the secret, underwater, hidden part of marketing no one will teach you. So that you can have a choice about retiring, which is what you want, no?

Stay tuned…
