Welcome Back. If you haven't, please subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks

As a provider for many, many (sometimes TOO many) years, I’ve had my share of ups and downs. Most of them have been ups. But the downs were so bad I have had to crawl in my bed and not answer the phone or even… egads… take a shower.

So, if you get a touch of the blues, you’re not alone.

This business is not for everyone, and even the toughest of us can feel as if the weight of the world is on us. It’s difficult for most women to be intimate with strangers, without it affecting them in some way. We crave that emotional attachment, something you don’t normally get with a client.

Society’s opinion of us doesn’t help, but that is really just the tip of the iceberg.

So, what to do when you’re feeling so sad you can’t get out of your own way? Well, for starters…take care of yourself. You will do nobody any good if you’re feeling that bad. Your clients will sense it immediately and it will hurt your business in the future. It only takes one bad session. In other words, do not take any appointments. Get a massage, watch a chick flick and bawl your eyes out. Eat a gallon of ice cream, whatever might fill a void, however temporarily.

Hopefully you have at least one friend who is either in the business or at least knows about your lifestyle that you can call up for support. I understand it may be difficult to talk to a professional about your feelings, but if you can find a reputable therapist that is willing to see you without judgment, by all means do so. But don’t suffer alone.

The one thing I have learned in all my years is that, yeah, there are some real assholes out there in this business, but that’s the same in EVERY business.

How many people do you know get up every morning and say “I just love my job!”? Not many! But there are people out there that do care. I have formed some very loving relationships with both clients and providers, I can’t say I’ve never been burned, but for the most part, it’s all been good. That’s probably why I’ve stayed so long. Sometimes I get up and say “Oh damn, not another day of this”, but there are days when, yes, I do get up and say “I love my job!”….here’s to many more of those days!

Be well, stay safe!

Peace,
Sherry
