I am a movie buff. There was a time in my life when I wanted movies to be my life, making them, writing about them, anything.
Nowadays I watch 3-4 Netflix movies a week. I watch them on my 7-inch dvd player with headphones. I am sitting in the bed, and this way I am not distracted, no eating, no drinking, just the movie.
I want to talk about a move I saw on Thursday: Irina Palm. It’s a British movie, starring Marianne Faithful, a woman in her 50’s. Little frumpy, little dull, housewife, no skills.
She has a son, and a sick grandson… a grandson who may or may not be cured in Australia, and they have already sold their house to pay for the years long hospital stay.
She decides to get a job, though she has no skills. She walks into this basement place, calls Sexy World, that has a sign: hostess wanted. The job is to be a wanker (that’s a British word for someone who masturbates men for money.) It pays well, and she takes the job.
She becomes the amazingly sought after “Irina Palm” palm… get the name?
We witness as she, for the first time in her life, grows some self esteem, some sense of self, a pride in her work, a fighting spirit. There is not a moment of lewdness in the whole move, it is real, it is warm, and it is very very inspiring.
It struck me that the movie really proves my main slogan in life: if you feel good about yourself, you feel good about your life. But how you feel about yourself has a lot to do with what is the context of your life.
This woman is decent, generous, through and through. We all have something to learn from her. Actually, a lot to learn from her.
I recommend that you find this movie and watch it. I watched it twice in a row, fast forwarding the parts that were only “story” the second time around. I was mainly interested in her personal growth and transformation from nobody to somebody.
Go see it. Netflix has it, and I gave checked, blockbuster has it. You’ll thank me for it.

I, too, am a big movie buff, having been involved in the acting world for so many years. The world of escorting is a little like acting also, you are creating a fantasy for your client. A good escort will be an even greater actress, because your client should never be able to tell the difference. Just as in any “job”, if you’re not enjoying yourself, you should find something else. There will be times when you don’t feel like escorting, the beauty of this “position” is if you are smart and not greedy and make sure you put money away for a rainy day, you can take some time off to regenerate. When you come back your clients will have missed you and they will be able to truly enjoy the (fairly) new you!
I am an older provider and used to feel like I was competing with the hot young things that have permeated the business. I have clients that have tried these young girls, (no offense to the young girls, though) and while some of them have been satisfied, alot of them felt there was something lacking in the warmth. I think this comes from the lack of experience, the idea of being intimate with an older man makes them uncomfortable, etc. I know that’s how I felt when I was a younger provider. The trick I think is to behave like an actress that is working for that Oscar. No one should know you’re acting but you!

Hey Sherry, you are so right. What I’d like to add is that people who are willing to consider make-believe, are enjoying this profession a lot more, build lasting and intimate friendships with customers, and feel great about themselves.
How I recognize them is that they always have great sessions, they always talk adoringly about clients, they are upbeat, look forward to meeting a new person, and even more to see a returning client. They never put themselves down, they never consider that they did a sexual favor (I mean that!). All in all, these fortunate and smart women have a role to play, they identify with the role while they playing it, and are a lot happier than the average adult service provider.
The Luisa character in the movie worked for money, Maggie-on the other hand-worked for pride and service. What a difference!
